Howdy, I'm Jack Jernigan

Howdy! My name is Jack Jernigan. I am a calculated and committed student who takes pride in being an effective communicator and being adaptable in new environments, teams, and situations.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak this past season, I was unable to secure a company internship during the summer of 2020 due to offers either being rescinded or applied positions no longer being available. However, I took it upon myself to better myself academically and professionally during that period by finishing up elective classes needed for graduation, earning a certification in Lean Six Sigma, and by participating in the Student Engineers’ Council Directed Internship. The internship consisted of professional development workshops and a group project in which formulated teams were given a problem statement relevant to today’s world and were required to present a solution for it. This program enabled me to enhance my leadership skills, interpersonal skills, and creativity in a time of global isolation and for that I am extremely thankful.

My previous professional work experience allowed me to conceptualize the multifunctional nature of data analysis. During my time at Rone Engineering Inc, I used collected data from field technicians to report characteristics about the land, structure, or system in question to my manager. At Southern Methodist University, data collected through several survey instruments allowed me to issue informed decisions about the best course of action for our summer-long team project, an outreach program aimed to influence the entire DFW area. These experiences in conjunction with my academic coursework have allowed me to expand and apply my technical capabilities within the workplace.

During the past two years, I have volunteered my time outside of the classroom with my local church by serving children with special needs within the congregation. Throughout my time serving, I have learned the importance of relational skills while also cementing my virtue of serving others to the best of my ability to ensure that their safety and comfort is never compromised.
